This is a quick easy dessert where most any apple can be used.
Peel, and slice 5-6 medium apples and arrange in a greased 8” glass pan. Sprinkle 2 Tbl. Cider or water over apples and continuing to sprinkle ¼ cup of white sugar over the top of the apples also. In a mixing bowl combine 1 and ½ cup bisquick mix with ½ cup of white sugar and one tsp cinnamon. Beat one large egg in a separate bowl and add to bisquick mixture. Stir with a fork until crumbly.
Pour evenly over the apples. Cut ¼ butter into pieces and pour over the top. Bake in hot oven 400 degrees for about ½ hour until the top is brown and apples are soft when pricked with a fork. If apples appear to be hard, turn oven down to 325 degrees and continue to cook for another 15 minutes.

“greased ” with what? butter, shortening, lard ?
“Cut ¼ butter into pieces and pour over the top.” Does that mean 1/4 pound of butter ? Was is suppossed to be melted first ?
One-fourth butter what? One-fourth cup? One-fourth of one stick? One-fourth of a pound? It’s customary to list the ingredients at the top of a recipe, and there are two good reasons for that: The most obvious reason is that it allows the cook to gather the ingredients before starting. The less obvious, but equally important reason, is that listing the ingredients reminds the person writing the recipe to provide all proportions – not only the amount but also the unit of measure (ie, cups, ounces, pounds, etc.) required.
This is a delicious recipe. Very easy and fast. Very Yummo and I had to use 2 different varieties as I only had a few left of each. Received compliments.
you wrote “‘cut ¼ butter into pieces and pour over the top” 1/4 if what please..
So not sure what is the measurement for the 1/4 butter?? Is that 1/4 cup? 1/4 of a stick?
Seems like a lot of bisquick for just an 8 in square pan
Butter is sold in a one pound package, which is a pound. A pound cake takes all four sticks. A 1/4 is one stick cut up in pieces and then tossed onto top of the ingredients.
I have a 1967 Bisquick cookbook, which includes the Apple Crisp recipe. I’ve made this many times. The original recipe uses “1/4 cup shortening, melted.” I’ve always used 1/4 cup melted butter which is half of a stick. It gets poured over top of Bisquick crumb mixture.
